Ashley Shelton
Ms. Ashley Shelton Ashley Shelton is a dedicated and passionate educator committed to promoting equity and excellence in special education within public schools. A proud graduate of Essex County Public Schools (Class of 2009), Ms. Shelton has built her career on the belief that every child deserves access to a high-quality education tailored to their individual needs.
Ms. Shelton earned a Master of Arts in Education, specializing in Special Education, from the University of Phoenix in 2023; a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, graduating cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2013; and an Educational Leadership Endorsement from Longwood University in 2025.
Since January 2021, Ms. Shelton has served as a Special Education Teacher for Essex County Public Schools, supporting students in grades 4–8. From 2022 to 2025, she also served as the Special Education Lead, providing guidance to staff, ensuring compliance with special education regulations, and championing equitable practices across classrooms.
Ms. Shelton is passionate about creating inclusive learning environments, fostering student growth, and empowering all learners to reach their full potential. And she looks forward to advancing this work and continuing to support the school community from her new role as Assistant Principal of James Cary Intermediate School.
